Curling – a sport for everyone
Curling is fair, sociable and open to everyone – on the ice, what counts is team spirit, a feel for the stone and the joy of the game.
Nobody is left out
Curling is one of the most inclusive sports there is. With us, everyone is on the ice together – no matter where you come from, your skin colour, religion or beliefs, who you love, how old you are or whether you live with a physical disability. Wheelchair curling is even a Paralympic sport.
🤝 On the ice we're all on first-name terms.
The “Spirit of Curling”
Curling thrives on fairness and respect. There usually aren't any referees – the teams manage the game themselves. The basis for this is the “Spirit of Curling”, a code of honour that curlers all over the world follow.
The Spirit of Curling in full
Curling is a game of skill and tradition. A well-played stone is a joy to watch – and it is just as good to see curling's long-standing traditions lived in the true spirit of the game. Curlers play to win, but never to humiliate their opponents. A true curler never tries to distract opponents or keep them from playing their best – and would rather lose than win unfairly.
Curlers never knowingly break a rule of the game or any of its traditions. If it happens by accident and they notice, they are the first to report the breach themselves.
Although the main aim of curling is to measure the players' skill, the spirit of the game calls for good sportsmanship, kindness towards one another and honourable conduct.
This spirit should shape both how the rules are interpreted and applied and how everyone involved behaves – on the ice and off it.
